Tummy Time

Tummy Time -- It's an activity that we are supposed to work on daily. Thankfully, if she's in the right mood, Kate will do it for short periods of time and actually works really hard at it! We didn't really need a class to show us what to do, but it was an excuse to get out of the house, so Kate and I attended a "Tummy Time Fun" class a few Fridays ago. At first I thought I might have wasted my money because Kate slept through the entire first part of the class and then woke up hungry.
Watching the action while Miss Kate was sound asleep.
I think she engages in some defensive sleeping when she's put in unfamiliar situations.
After some rest and her meal though, Kate was ready to show off her skills. She ended up being the model student in the class for the younger babies under three months.
Showing those other babies how it's done!
The pediatric physical therapist holding Kate here said her neck was very strong for a six week-old (her age at the time).
I credit it partly to her love of the "Flying V" position (see earlier post) and her desire to constantly look up and out at her surroundings.
Kate has been rolling out of the Tummy Time position from her stomach to her back since she was about four weeks-old. She might have just gotten lucky the first few times, but now you can see that she appears to be getting the hang of it:

More practice. Check out that form!
Mid rollover.
All the attention and cheering Steve and I give Kate while she does Tummy Time on her activity mat might be causing just a little jealously in Otter...
He mastered Tummy Time a long time ago!
